Freight traffic at Indian airports has the potential to reach 17 MT by FY40. Aircraft movements were 1,757,112 in FY22 and 2.5 million in FY23. To accommodate expanding aviation traffic, the Government of India has been working to boost the number of airports. As of 2023, India had 148 operating airports.
